ROSSOPURO Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2010

The name CantinArte derives from the fusion of two concepts: “Cantina” (cellar), the agricultural production site of wine and olive oil, and “Arte” (art), the art in question being that making wine. Our passion is offering hospitality and a hands-on experience in taste.
CantinArte is a recently established farm owned by the Di Nisio family and located in the hills around Chieti, in Abruzzo.
We are blessed in that our land is in an area where nature’s rhythms are sustainable and there is no need for massive human intervention. Vineyards and olive groves nestle among fields of wheat and the grapes are grown to biodynamic criteria. Like our neighbours, we have opted to follow the path of sustainability.
Every year, CantinArte produces just a few thousand bottles of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine and extra virgin olive oil, determinedly adhering to the notion of “natural product”, which means:
1) shunning weedkillers, burndown herbicides or fertilisers,
2) using only a few products selected from those permitted in organic farming,
3) picking grapes and olives by hand

All CantinArte’s activities hinge on hospitality in the country and at our 18th-century olive press. The “Museo dell’Olio” (Museum of Oil), as the press is known, is the ideal place to immerse yourself in Abruzzo’s authentic heritage and also where we hold professional and interactive olive oil and wine tastings.
Over the past few years, CantinArte products have won critical accolades and can now be found in many of Europe’s restaurants and delicatessens.

Harvest

Rossopuro Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC wine comes from ancient montepulciano vineyards, whose vines are trained in the age-old Abruzzo pergola tradition.

This 40-year-old vineyard faces southeast in the Bucchianico estate in the province of Chieti, planted on medium-textured clayey soil. The vines yield 70 quintals per hectare compared to the 140 maximum envisaged by the DOC production protocol, which allows us to have a very concentrated product, ideal for making a wine with long shelf life that is eminently cellarable.

Rossopuro Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC graces the wine lists of Michelin-starred restaurants and has received flattering tributes from industry guides. If there is a secret to this wine’s success, it is the joy it arouses in those who taste it.

At CantinArte we use no chemical fertilizers or plant protection products on our vines. We prefer to wage a biological war with organic fertilizers, compost, copper and sulphur, grassing and mulching. We focus on the importance of human intervention which means that here at the CantinArte winery we enjoy working under the guidance of experts, an older generation that offers us the wealth of its experience and knowledge of nature.

Our philosophy is one of working with passion and ethics, never losing sight of the wonders of nature.
